Inspire – High potential and gifted education
At Parry School, we recognise that some students show advanced potential in areas such as thinking, creativity, leadership, physical ability or social, emotional skills. These strengths can emerge even when a student has experienced barriers to learning, mental health challenges, or inconsistent school engagement.
Because of this, we take a strengths-based approach to understanding each student and supporting their growth.
What is high potential and gifted education?
Parry School is a short-term intervention setting, and students remain enrolled at their home school while attending. When a student with high potential or giftedness is identified, we work in partnership with their home school to ensure they continue to access appropriate enrichment, extension and specialised opportunities.
This may include:
- liaising with the home school about the student’s strengths and identified domain(s) of high potential
- coordinating learning adjustments, enrichment tasks and extension activities that can be completed at Parry
- supporting flexible arrangements so students can continue participating in specialist programs, sport, creative arts, leadership or academic pathways offered by their home school
- embedding relevant goals, strategies and monitoring into the student’s IEP and PLP
- ensuring continuity of learning so students maintain progress during their time at Parry
Our priority is to nurture the student’s strengths while supporting their wellbeing and readiness to successfully transition back to their home school environment.
